智能手機走勢「無常原是正常」....

記得大概四年前，有一間日本名牌數碼相機的本港代理商之高層與我約見會面，希望我在品牌戰略上獻計，藉以避過數碼相機銷量急跌、以及內藏高像數拍攝功能的智能手機威脅，以及提早幾年前預測數碼相機、手機、及電玩等新走勢。

 

估當然要估；但「斷估一定有痛苦」，皆因估錯容易、估中難，全憑眼光和遠見。

估得準與否，每每直接影響度橋諗計的落刀切入位和準繩度。

 

無論如何，未來智能手機的走勢，也正如人生一樣，奇幻無窮---「無常原是正常」，經常要憑著個人經驗和學識，有橋未為輸地作出客觀的「Educated Guess」，盡量在「斷估」中減少「痛苦」。

 

現在就讓我「斷估」一番，貪爽貪玩地推測一下iPhone 的未來走勢、以至它對Blackberry及其他智能手機所帶來的未來影響：

 

1. iPhone在2010將推出64GB版本的高容量iPhone。其他對手可能也會做「跟得夫人」。

 

2. 在不出兩三年間，iPhone將把品牌拆細---推出較細部、類似iPhone Nano之類的較平宜型號，橫掃市場及狂谷銷售量。

 

3.現有的iPhone 3GS機身將略為修身，螢幕則將會有限度地擴大。

 

4.iPhone加入收音機不會是很遙遠的事。其他對手也會狂加iPhone還未有的功能...

 

5.銀色版的新iPhone他日一定有機會出現。黑白兩色已用得太多太濫! 其他對手也會聞「色」即變。

「機To機」社交不斷侵食「Face to Face」社交...

我們生活在一個捷然不同的世界裡,尤其是,若果與五年前,甚至與十年前相比的話...

●一部iPhone 在手,可以上網、打機、覆Email、寫Blog、用Twitter、聽歌、聽有聲書、 拍照、拍短片,然後即時上載到Facebook或You Tube裡,自行進行資訊製作或廣播(Self- publishing or Self-broadcasting)。

發放及接收訊息的時間、地點、和空間,完全自己話事,皆因我們已身處在一個社交媒體 (Social Media)的年代裡,絕對是個人傳意成本低低,自由海闊天空地,發表慾再不受制於 傳統昂貴媒體! 不少新派廣告商、廣告人已在手機行銷 (Mobile Marketing)、電子遊戲行銷 (Gaming Marketing)等入手,皆因有橋未為輸,緊貼顧客消費羣溝通新模式的行銷傳意人, 才是高B(而非低B)的一羣...

科技好像是拉近了人與人, 地域之間的矩離,但其實,科技也好像製造了不少寂莫人。一個 人狂打機、一個人狂用Blackberry、一個人放工後,仍然獨對電腦---「機To機」社交(或繼續 工作!),而非像過往「Face to Face」、經常充滿人氣地與別人面對面,閒話家常,直接溝 通; 例如放工後與家人、朋友,一大鵬人、合府統請,同一時間地排排坐,對住同一部LCD 大電視,一同有講有笑地看著同一個電視節目的「羣體煲TV」現像,不是沒有,但絕對是 急劇減少。

忙、時間乾溏、各人各異---各取所需的個人化資訊及娛樂溝通模式,是「機To機」社交不斷 侵食「Face to Face」社交的死症所在!

這三五年間，我們看到了很多變動，不少由科技，尤其是社交傳媒科技(Social Media)所帶動！

用Facebook與新舊朋友，打交道，消磨時間。

用Flickr上載相片，與別人分享。

用iPhone聽歌、上Tube睇短片、打機、影相、看電影，兼上綱、收發emails... 看書，數之不盡!

用Typepad寫Blogs, 上載Vlogs。

用Google收料查料、用Wikipedia每事查根問底、用Forum發表意見，直接或間接影響產品服務、政客名人、以至企業品牌等的口碑輿論。

不論是輿論或愚論！

我們由以往, 較爲樂於注重人氣溝通的「Face to Face」年代，進入一個愈來愈注重電腦機器的「機to 機」年代。

年青人, 有時同處一室, 亦要互相SMS一番而放棄正面談話、對話。機to機也！

太太在客廳，老公在房間，也要Blackberry一番。機to機也！

同事只是相隔於一兩個座位，都要以電腦傳送PDF文件檔。機to機也！

同六歲大小朋友同檯飲茶食飯，她的可愛童真只管留給NDS;有親戚的小孩到訪拜年，他只管一直向着Online Games或 PSP拜年。機to機也！

工作及生活上無節制的機to機，只會令新舊一代的社交及人氣溝通能力，在不自覺之間下降。

人容易忽略了身邊的真愛、至愛、舊愛---即使正在一同打機或機to機也好!

時間一去，幾多部新iPhone也補不到數。

人究竟用緊電腦手機，抑或被電腦手機用緊自己！？

每當我用MacBook、iPhone、及Blackberry用到過量或過度時，我學會開始撫心自問"Am I the Master or the Slave of the Computers & Gadgets?"

我正學習少些「機to 機」...多些「Face to Face」!

江燕來's Memo 40--Still Use 2G iPhone ? A Little Trick to Increase the iPhone Volume !

The quiet riot: iPhone volume complaints continue to pour in

According to the Cnet Reviews,  one of the many 2G iPhone user posted a very useful tip on how to increase the volume of the iPhone.... It  simply works! It rocks!

Here is the  comment posted:

" Having had a definitive SPEAKERPHONE low volume problem a week or so after buying the iphone, I discovered that the 23 tiny SPEAKER HOLES at the bottom left of the phoned were PLUGGED UP!

I very carefully cleaned them out with a fine Pin, being careful not to put the pin in too far and puncture the internal speaker within. I repeat - do this at your own risk - carefully!!!

Well, for me, IT WORKED and immediately the volume was significantly increased. I now clean those holes about once a week as I suspect that normal grime from my hand is either occluding the holes or the moisture picked up from my palm is causing dust or debris to get stuck in them. 

Let me know if anyone else has success with this. Dare I say it might be an Apple design defect? Kind of kidding because I love Apple stuff, but as much as I love the phone, I do find the volume issues disappointing!"

Note: Actually many tried out the method, including myself, it works like magic...

江燕來's Memo 39--Great News from Macworld: Copy and Paste on "Jailbroken" iPhones....

Happy Chinese New Year!  Great Health, Great Happiness, Great Prosperity to all readers of Inno:Blog.

One of the greatest new for CNY in 2009 is that you can now do copy and paste on iPhones, but for only those "jailbroken"  iPhones though.

It is kind of strange for Apple in delaying and delaying in launching such "must have", "so basic" mobile phone feature.

There has been a cry out for Apple to launch such feature for their latest 3G iPhone, but Apple doesn't seem to listen!? Two apps from Cydia in jailbroken iPhones (a utility for installing third-party applications and tools)--"Clippy" and "hClipboard" do answer the "urgent needs" of the iPhone fanatics.

Will Apple launch their own "copy and paste" feature version in their next iPhone OS upgrade?

Copy and paste on (some) iPhones

Invariably, when Apple releases a new version of the iPhone’s software, users ask this question: “Is copy and paste finally implemented?” And, just as invariably, the answer is “No.”

As far as Apple is concerned, the answer remains no. But those who’ve jailbroken their iPhones can now reply, “Yes, sort of.”

Specifically, if you’ve used a utility such as PwnageTool or QuickPwn to jailbreak your phone and, in that process, install Cydia (a utility for installing third-party applications and tools), you have the option to install a couple of utilities that add some copy and paste functionality to your iPhone.

One is Ryan Petrich’s Clippy. Once installed it adds Copy, Paste, Stack, and Close entries to the iPhone keyboard’s .?123 keyboard. To copy text in an editable text field (in Notes or Mail, for example), bring up the keyboard, tap the .?123 key, tap Copy, and the text is copied to the clipboard. To paste, just move to that .?123 keyboard and tap Paste.

You can copy just a selection of text by double-tapping at the beginning of the text you wish to copy and dragging your finger across the text to select it. Then tap Copy.

Clippy’s implementation in Text (SMS) is different. To copy a portion of an SMS chat, just double-tap on a text balloon. The tapped text will be copied to the clipboard, ready to paste into another application.

Clippy can maintain multiple clipboard entries. To choose one, bring up the keyboard, tap the .?123 key, and tap the Stack button. In the window that appears you’ll see all copied chunks of text. To choose one, drag it to the top of the list, close the window, and tap Paste.

Another copy and paste option for jailbroken iPhones is KennyTM’s hClipboard. Installing hClipboard adds an hClipboard keyboard to the iPhone’s International keyboards. Once installed you must enable the iClipboard keyboard in the International Keyboard setting (Settings/General/Keyboard/International Keyboards). To use it, produce the keyboard in an application such as Mail or Notes, tap the International Keyboard button on the keyboard (the globe icon that appears next to the Space Bar), and then tap the Copy button. The text in the editable field will be added to the clipboard.

If you want to select just a portion of the text, use your finger to insert the cursor at the beginning of the text you’d like to copy and tap the Select From Here icon. Then place the cursor at the end of the text you want to copy and tap Select to Here and Copy. The text is copied to the clipboard.

To paste text, invoke this keyboard and tap any item in the clipboard list to paste. The clipboard can hold up to 10 items. If you find that too limited, you can tap the Switch to Templates button at the bottom-left corner of the screen and copy text into the Templates area. You can store an unlimited-except-by-storage number of template entries.

hClipboard offers another way to copy and paste text on an iPhone.

hClipboard doesn’t work with Text (SMS). For this reason, if you want more complete copy and paste, it’s worthwhile to install both Clippy and hClipboard.

Note that neither utility works reliably with third-party applications nor are they capable of copying text from Safari.

The usual jailbreak caveats apply. Jailbreaking an iPhone or iPod touch is not supported by Apple and will void your warranty. And while current jailbreaks can not permanently damage your iPhone (you can restore the iPhone with iTunes to bring its software back to its original condition), that doesn’t mean a jailbroken iPhone or iPod touch will work with future updates of the iPhone/iPod touch software. In short: Use at your own risk.

As an Apple fan, I cannot agree more...

I found the following piece of advice from MacDailyNews on Fri, Nov 14, 2008 convincing.

It well summarizes the "15 reasons why Apple Macs are still better than Windows PCs"!

Dan Warne writes for APC Magazine--Warne lists out 15 reasons on why Macs are still better than Windows (of course I would add even more..):

1. Reliable sleep mode
2. Extremely fast boot times
3. Apple uses good quality parts
4. Less blinking lights
5. Mac OS X + Windows is better than just Windows
6. Easier to troubleshoot Macs
7. A culture of good quality community software
8. More useful apps out of the box
9. Neat and contained system settings
10. Apple doesn't load the system up with crap
11. Tons of small reasons make Mac OS X better
12. Still no need for additional security software
13. Apple seems largely to be lameness free
14. Power of the Linux command line with Photoshop CS4
15. File sharing is much easier

Warne writes, "Macs just let you get stuff done, whereas Windows computers constantly find ways of annoying you."

I bought a Netbook few months ago--eePC 901 by Asus. If it is not for its over 5 hours long battery life and ultra-portability, I will definitely not buy it or use it, since the Window XP that comes with it really annoys me.
It is definitely not my "cup of tea"!

It takes time to boot up. It freezes easily. Many inconveniences loaded!!

All my computers are Mac, except this "little toy". I use it as a "No- brainer". But it actually frustrates me and gets more of my mental energy out. Wonder why people still stick with PC when they can enjoy a better computer experience with a Mac?

I assume that Apple does not launch its Apple Netbook yet because they don't want to kill the sales of iPhone, iPod Touch, MacBook Air, MacBook, and MacBook Pro.

Who will buy MacBook Air, MacBook, and MacBook Pro, if there is an Apple Netbook, and when ultra-portability is the key concern in using it outside home or office.

In fact, it is extremely easy for Apple to include the "Copy and Paste" feature in iPhone and iPod Touch. They keep on postponing because who will bother to bring along with their MacBook Air, MacBook, or MacBook Pro outside home or office, if iPhone is becoming "so all-in-one--damn powerful"!?

You gonna love them...It tells why people (and I) become Apple Evangelists in the first place (luckily or unluckily without being paid)....
